"NOT SO" Wordless Wednesday ::Aug. 18th 2010::

Earlier this month we went to New Orleans for our family reunion. I've been to Louisiana plenty of times before, but this was my first time actually having the chance to be in my husband's hometown for an extended amount of time. He gave me as much of a tour as he could considering our itinerary for the family reunion. He had not been back in his hometown since a year before Katrina happened. The look upon his face when he saw the places he use to hang out, his school elementary school, their old apartment when he was a kid and more, was a little hard on me. You could clearly see the hurt and shock in his eyes. Here are just a FEW pictures of what I captured. There is still a lot that needs to be done for the town of New Orleans.

Lake Pontchartrain. This literally cuts through parts of the city. It, of course, spilled over into the neighborhoods.

Flood gate OPENED. Behind us, the homes weren't damaged or didn't have much damage. Looking through the gate like I photographed it is where the city sent majority of the flood water. 9th Ward.

This is where my husband literally stopped the car. He couldn't believe his eyes.

Top floor is where my Mother-In-Law and her children lived when he was younger. The small window was his bedroom.

The school he went to across the street from his home.

See that open field? There use to be classrooms there.

Another school we came across.

And they still have so many more homes to get to.

I love New Orleans and I have not been back since a year before as well. It will always be dear to my heart no matter what.
