Featured Mommy Business Owner: The Little Diva Shoppe [Plus Giveaway!]

Over the past year I have discovered that I know some very talented women! So many of my friends have businesses of their own (which just inspires me to start mine) that I thought "Why not feature one of them each month to the whole world?!". And that's what I'm going to do. Not only am I going to feature my friends, I'll review other Mom owned businesses as well. One goal for 2011 (just like last year) is to make a purchase from a Mommy business (espeically Military wives) at least once a month. I did pretty good last year. If you have any recommendations on Mom businesses, leave a comment below!

Here's February's Featured Momy Business Owner:

The Little Diva Shoppe is owned and operated by one of my good friends and fellow Navy wife Shaunte. I was so excited when she decided to start her boutique. She makes the cutest things! Like most boutiques, she makes it a priority to make youor purchase exactly how you want it. These two bows below are my daughter's favorites at the moment. The minute she saw that they were new hairbows, she put all four of them in her head and wore them around for hours! Now I just have to find an outfit for them.

The Interview:

Thanks for being my first featured Mommy Business Owner! Could you please tell the wonderful people a little about yourself and your business.

Well, I am a SAHM, and Navy wife. I have two beautiful girls ages 2 and 8 months, and I also have two sweet and crazy little dogs. I create bows, tutus, and bottlecap necklaces. I love doing custom orders and seeing someone else's vision come to life. I'm always trying out and researching new techniques or ways to perfect my current way of crafting.

What was it that brought you to creating these lovely items and when did you start?
Well being a Navy family, and constantly on the move these last 3 years, it was hard for me to find that little "extra" something for my little girls. I also had a hard time finding the color combinations I wanted. When I did find something I liked, it all just seemed incredibly over priced. I figured I'd might as well try to do it myself.

Had you been "crafty" prior to having children?
I've always been a crafty girl. When I was young I cross stitched, and I've been into scrapbooking as long as I can remember. I also dabbled in sewing at a young age.

You create quite an array of items, what has been your favorite project?
I think that tutus are my favorite project. I created a mini mouse outfit for my daughters 2nd birthday party, and it was so much fun. Plus it turned out to be absolutely adorable!

Being a SAHM, let alone a WAHM can get pretty crazy; how do you balance running a business and family life? How much time are you able to devote each week to your business?
It's definitely not easy, but I try to stay connected to the shop during the day while my girls are entertaining each other at my feet, and I mostly do my real work/crafting at night when they are sleeping. It means lots of late nights for me, but I'm a night owl by nature.

Alright, let's get a little fun fact in about you! Go ahead, tell us!
Hmmm....a "fun" fact? I'm superwoman! lol Just kidding. Since May of 2008 I have lived in 4 states, and given birth to two girls. Busy, busy, busy...and I've loved every moment of it.

Do you have any advice for other Moms out there who are thinking about starting a business or who are in the start-up phases already?
Network, network, network!!! Don't be afraid to try, and don't over extend yourself too much. You want to still be able to find joy in what you're doing. If you can't, you'll burnout fast.

Last but not least, why do you believe it's so important to support Mommy business owners?
If we don't support each other, who is going to support us? Since we all know what type of energy and time it takes to raise a family, I think we should have that much more appreciation for Mommy's who are trying to create an identity for themselves outside of just being a wife and mother.
